Instructions on how to use iCMS to create and modify your website

Webpage Structure

Each iCMS webpage is made up of a PAGE, each of which contains several SECTIONS.

Each SECTION can have MEDIA (images, movies, MP3s).

Each PAGE may have CHILD PAGES which are listed as additional links on the page.

A PAGE may also have SIBLING PAGES which appear in a previous/next format.

Pages

To create a page click on the 'New Page' link on the info bar of the current page.

Title - the heading at the top of the page and also the name shown in links to the page.

Description - a brief one-line description of the page.

Parent Page - sets the relationship of this page to others. A link to this page will appear on the parent page or, if there is no parent a link to this page will appear on the main menu.

URL - the part of the address which goes after the domain of the website - examples of URLs are biogs, biogs/ron or info.

Order - this is used to juggle the order of the page relative to other pages at the same level - the higher the number the lower down the list the page comes.

Section Sorting Rule - determines how sections are ordered. This may override (but not change) the order settings for each section.

Style Class - changes the appearance of this page if any style classes are set up.

Status - determines whether the page is viewable by the public.

Section Order - Here you can change the order of sections on this page (if the section sorting rule is set appropriately).

Sections

Each page can have a number of sections.

Each section has a title and a body.

Title - appears as the main heading of the section.

Body - appears as the main text within the section.

Parent page - You may change the parent page of a section - this enables you to move sections between pages easily.

Format - if you are familiar with XHTML formatting you may want to set this to XML otherwise set it to text. Inline XML lets you add code such as links to your text without having to put in complete XHTML.

Order - specifies where in the list of sections this section appears.

Style class - changes the appearance of the page if any classes are set up.

Status - states whether the section may be viewed by the public. Can also affect visibility to other contributors.

Update date-modified - Set this to checked if you want to bump the section to the top of the news.

It is possible to add media (images, sounds, video) to a section, however, the section must be created first.

Status

Pages and sections have a status.

The status determines whether the page or section can be viewed by the public or by different roles (administrator, contributor, etc).

The statuses you can apply depend on your role. For instance, if you are a contributor you cannot publish a page or a section - you must submit it; an editor may then check your submission and publish it.

Editors can change statuses to whatever they want.

General Notes

You can only edit your own pages and sections unless you are an editor or an administrator.
